The fall season is a time to get acquainted with the latest batch of dramas, comedies and reality shows on television. In the next few weeks new series will have viewers intrigued, addicted and impressed. THE INFERNO takes a look at the new TV line-up to determine whether the shows have must-see potential.
New Girl: Sept. 20 9/8c on KPTV
This series is looking to make Zooey Deschanel into a household name.The show revolves around Jess Day, Deschanel’s character, as she experiences living with three platonic male roommates whom she moved in with after a break up. The show focuses on the bonds the roomates create as they learn to live with one another. The show is a modern version of Three’s Company, a fresh take on an old formula.
Once Upon a Time: Oct. 23 8|7c on ABC
Once Upon a Time, by the creators of Lost, stars Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Robert Carlyle is a very witty, quirky yet dark spin on childhood tales. IMDB says the story centers around a woman with a troubled past who moves to a town in which Fairy Tales might be reality. The show’s website describes it as “a bold new imagining of the world, where fairy tales and the modern-day are about to collide.”
Person of Interest: Sept. 22 9/8c on CBS
Person of Interest, starring Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson from Lost, and Taraji P. Henson grabs the interest of conspiracy theory buffs and future technology enthusiasts. The show is a fascinating combination of crime prevention and the struggle for justice as a scientist and ex-CIA hitman come together to prevent crimes.
Terra Nova: Sept. 26 8/7c on FOX
Terra Nova has created major buzz because of its producer, Steven Spielberg. Terra Nova is an adventure about a
family from the year 2149 who travels back in time as far as the dinosaur era, in hopes of creating a new civilization. The visual effects of the show are ulike any before seen on the small screen.
Ringer: Sept. 13 9/8c on The CW
Created and produced by former Supernatural writers, Ringer will star Sarah Michelle Gellar as twin sisters. One of the twins is escaping the mob and poses as her twin sister to escape them, just to find out her sister has some trouble of her own.
Revenge: Sept. 21 10|9c on ABC
Revenge is about a young woman who moves to the Hamptons community to seek revenge on the people who destroyed her family. Starring Emily VanCamp, Christa B. Allen and Josh Bowman—the cast is filled with skilled actors and actresses.
Pan Am: Sept. 25 10|9c on ABC
Pan Am has an early 1960s feel, reminiscent of Mad Men. This show is a celebration and reflection of a time when having a career as a flight attendant was a fascinating adventure for only the most attractive girls, while focusing on the negative aspects of the career. The show stars Kelli Garner, Michael Mosley, Karine Vanasse and Christina Ricci.
The Secret Circle: Sept. 15 9/8c on CW
The Secret Circle, starring Britt Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Shelley Hennig and Natasha Henstridge, is one of the CW’s most talked-about new series. From the producers of Vampire Diaries, this show might appeal to the fan base of the recent vampire craze, except this series features witches rather than the bloodsuckers.
The Playboy Club: Sept. 19 10/9c on KGW
Similar to Pan Am, this show also has a 60’s time setting. Set in Chicago’s Playboy Club, the show offers a glimpse of the life of an early playmate as well as subplots about Chicago gangsters.
Charlie’s Angels: Sept. 22 8/7c on ABC The Angels are back once again! There have been numerous spins and remakes of the Angels, from film to television, and viewers are eager to see the modern 2011 take on the dangerous divas played by Hollywood newcomers, as well as beauty Minka Kelly.Charlie’s Angels is about a burglar, a street racer and a dirty cop who get a chance to turn their lives around by fighting crime and working for the mysterious Charlie Townsend, directed by former Angel Drew Barrymore. These shows have created quite a buzz, yet the question still remains, which one of the new series will prevail enough to be given a second season?
