The St. John’s cross-country team placed seventh at the 2012 Metropolitan Championship Friday at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.
“We felt that we should have been in the top 3 teams,” said St. John’s head coach Jim Hurt. “However, we ran into a rash of injuries.”
Junior Chelsea Trant was the Red Storm’s fastest runner on the day with a final time of 19:59.69, which placed her 30th overall. Senior Alexis Bean finished with a total time of 20:03.33 and Freshman Stephanie Van Pelt finished with a time of 20:54.95.
The Johnnies next meet will be the Big East Championship on Oct. 26.
Their experience at the Metropolitan Championship will be sure to influence their performances in two weeks time.
“It [Metropolitan Championship] should help us because we showed some toughness getting out there and competing even with the rash of injuries,” said Hurt.
