The St. John’s men’s basketball let go a collective sigh of relief on Friday afternoon.
Mohamed Diakite, a 6-11 freshman from Africa, was declared eligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Diakite has been sidelined and unable to practice or play because of a fracture to the fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand.
Surgery to repair the fracture was performed on Nov. 2 by Dr. Michelle Carlson. She inserted two pins into the hand during the surgery.
Diakite will have X-rays taken next week to see how the healing is progressing. At that time, a timetable will be set for his return.
