Men’s soccer player Sebastian Alvarado-Ralph garnered a pair of weekly awards and freshman Garry Lewis was named the Big East Rookie of the Week, it was announced today.
Alvarado-Ralph, a graduate student, had a part in every goal in St. John’s 4-1 win at the Duke/Adidas Classic, earning Big East Offensive Player of the Week honors, and earning a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
He scored one goal and tallied three assists in the win.
Alvarado-Ralph’s goal, his second of the season, came in the 74th minute and gave St. John’s a 3-1 lead. He had an assist on the team’s other three goals, becoming the 14th player in program history to record three assists in one game. It is the first time a Red Storm player had three assists in a game since Oct. 23, 1999, when Carlo Acquista registered three in a 4-1 win over Notre Dame.
Lewis, a forward, scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in Sunday’s win, the first of four second half goals for the Red Storm. Lewis was fed the ball and took the shot to the opposite corner for the tally, breaking a one-all tie in the 71st minute.
